Want to lose weight? Buy a food scale!
63Diets suck! Thats a fact. I talk about how much they suck in my blog about my weight loss journey. Diets don't work either. Whats that you say? You lost 40 pounds by drinking the expunged liquid from your fish tank? Great, are you going to drink that til youre 80 so you don't gain the weight back?
The facts are almost any diet from slim fast to Jenny Craig will have positive weight loss results, but as soon as you stop using those products the weight comes back (try reading up on Kirstie Alley and what happened to her). So go ahead and call Jenny Craig, buy the slim fast, eat 50000 grapefruit, drink a gallon of saurkraut, but in the end, unless you plan on doing those forever, you'll gain the weight back. Spend a few bucks on a food scale and you'll keep your weight loss forever, as long as you use the scale.
Why did Kirstie Alley gain all her weight back, like the other 100 zillion of us? She went back to old habits. We don't gain our weight with good habits and proper exercise. We gain weight because we aren't genetically gifted enough to eat what we want and not gain weight. We don't starve ourselves like a crackhead rockstar, we haven't genes of a supermodel, and most of us dont have the money to pay for fitness trainer like Oprah. But you don't need to do any of that or have any of that. You don't need to buy special "diet" foods or pills made from a berry found in the northern regions of Timbuktu, handpicked by skinny blind nuns who eat the berry everyday by grinding it to dust and swallowing with 4 liters of honey purified water! Didn't that sentence sound ridiculous? Buying easy weight loss fixes are just as ridiculous! All you need to buy are balanced foods and a good scale. The bottom line is: in order to one pound you need to reduce your food intake by 500 calories a day. Or, even better, reduce food by 250 calories a day and burn 250 calories away through exercise.
Does it mean you have to eat a grape a day and pretend to be full? No! You can eat whatever you want, I eat brownies and lose weight and I've lost nearly 15 pounds in 6 weeks. What I do differently than anyone else is I measure what I eat. After six weeks, I've got a much better idea about proper portion sizes for some foods so I don't measure those as often, but I still measure a fair amount, especially to foods for which I have a weakness (bread, cake, bread, french bread, croissants, bread.. did I mention bread?). A bowl, a spoon, flour and sugar makes Alex a happy girl.
If you don't measure you wont realize what youre eating! For instance if you read my hubpage about raisins, did you know that around 125 grams or raisins is 400 calories. Four! Hundred! Calories!
So measure measure measure! Its a better investment than any frozen meal or weight loss program. And don't forget to move your body!

I have been getting a little chubby since being married. I am waiting for my wife to buy a cheap food scale to start monitoring my diet. I also have a hub on a food scaleS.
